    Waves Weekly - Sunday May 17 2026

    Happy Sunday Waves!

Yesterday we had a great first home dual meet against the Summerwood Stingrays. Although the team score didn't end up in our favor, it ended up being a fun day with a great group of neighbors with lots of fun memories.

Some of the new families may be asking why the scores are so lopsided. And the answer really is about team size and HOA areas. Most of the teams in the NWAL are broken up by HOA and aligned by team registration size (We are W1). Here in Kingwood, it seems like there's a different HOA for every block and we have a pool in every section. Our neighborhoods were built different back then. The newer subdivisions, such as Fall Creek and Summerwood, are all one big HOA with centralized infrastructure and one big swim team.

The other thing is that they really show up and in all age ranges. We have 224 registered swimmers but only 171 actual for the meet. Summerwood showed up with 214 swimmers. And they dominated 13 and up because we simply don't have enough swimmers in those categories. In some events, they sweep simply because they have bodies in the water. We have a huge dropoff in kids when they get to 7th and 8th grade due to concentrations in other sports as well. BTA also had a meet running this weekend which pulled away some swimmers.

The numbers are what they are and unless something changes, we can expect to have similar performances against these larger teams.

    Another Home Meet This Week

This Saturday May 23 we will be hosting the East Montgomery County Eels. Everyone should know the drill by now. 7:00 AM check-in, closing at 7:45 AM sharp. Swimmers and volunteers for all shifts need to check in before 7:45 AM. The home team warmups start at 7:15 AM so if you want your swimmer to get warmed up, please be on time.

Reminder that the relays are generated and ordered by the times in the system. If your swimmer doesn't want to swim a particular leg of the medley relay, please add a coaches note to the entry with the preference, which they will try to consider - no promises.

    Volunteering Update

We only have 3 meets left this season, so if you haven't gotten your six shifts scheduled, now is the time to get them scheduled! There are available shifts so there are no excuses for not being able to get the commitment fulfilled. If you have questions, contact our volunteer coordinators directly. https://fmkp-waves.swimtopia.com/volunteering

    Swim-a-thon Kickoff

You should have received an email earlier today from FMKP sponsors inviting your swimmers to the 2026 FMKP Waves Swim-a-thon fundraiser. The event will be held on Wednesday, June 3rd during normal practice times, featuring music and treats as our swimmers dive in to complete as many laps as they can.

This year, we are swimming in loving memory of Haley Burns, a cherished member of our swim family who recently lost her heroic battle with appendix cancer. All proceeds will benefit the Bartlett Cancer Research Fund, directly supporting the innovative treatments and breakthrough research that give families fighting this rare disease precious extra time together. Every lap completed is a tribute to Haley's courage, and 100% of the donations made in her memory will go specifically toward appendix cancer research. Please join us in making waves for a cure by making a flat donation or sponsoring a swimmer on a per-lap basis today! https://app.99pledges.com/fund/2026fmkpwaves

That's it! Have a great week.

    Go Waves!
